I don’t know what it is about getting older that makes us start reminiscing about being a kid, but that is exactly what we do.

I found a fun way to capture the best of some childhood playthings, but I quickly found out that it isn’t always so easy. “Short Shorts” are short riddles that give details or clues about a favorite toy, and then names the toy at the very end. They should be between 3 and 7 lines long, and they’re not supposed to rhyme.

Here are a few that I came up with:

Borders of red,
A silver screen.
Two little knobs
Turning geometric fantasies…

Etch-a-Sketch

——————–

Pegs of colour
Punching through
The paper of life.
Joyful illuminations…

Lite-Brite

——————–

On Thunderbolt she rode -
Johnny’s jointed blue cowgirl,
With a caramel colored wardrobe
And plastic molded friends…

Jane West

——————–

With a 100 watt bulb
And tiny mixes,
Budding chefs
Serve sweet surprises
To family & friends…

Easy-Bake Oven
